Celebrate Summer at our Farm Market, Summer Soirée, Shibori Fabric Dyeing, and more!

Dear Friend,

Celebrate National Farmers Market Week from August 1st - 7th by shopping at our Farm Market today and every Wednesday from 3:30 to 6:30 pm!

Over the past year, we have worked to adapt the farm market to a rapidly changing world. As you may know, in 2020, we pivoted to offering a weekly free produce distribution to anyone in need and distributed over 300 boxes a week. This year, in an effort to further increase access to fresh food, we have been piloting a pay-what-you-can model at the Farm Market. Customers can select their own produce and how much to pay based on their self-assessed ability to pay, with no questions asked. They can pay using a variety of payment types, including SNAP/ EBT, Senior and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers, cash, credit, and more.

Farmers markets have always been a hub for innovation, and we have been at the forefront of adapting rapid solutions to protect staff, customers, and our community in this time of crisis. More than ever before, National Farmers Market Week is an opportunity to showcase the value of farmers markets in our communities.

We know that farmers markets are essential in their communities — the COVID19 pandemic made it clear that local food systems with short supply chains are resilient, and farmers markets play a vital role in keeping our community connected. We wouldn’t be able to continue to operate without our fantastic team of market support. When you see our market volunteers, be sure to thank them for making the market so amazing!

What can you do to support farmers markets and celebrate National Farmers Market Week?

  1. Shop regularly at our Farm Market – and tell your friends to do the same! Follow all directions and guidelines for safety while at the market.

  2. Local food fans are encouraged to share National Farmers Market Week on social media! Use the #LoveMyMarket, #FarmersMarketsareEssential, and #FarmersMarketWeek to share the bounty of the season on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

  3. Join our CSA! Email us to sign up for a pro-rated plan.

  4. Support organizations such as Farmers Market Coalition that provide technical assistance and guidance to farmers markets nationally as well as organizations working to advocate for increased funding for nutrition assistance programs such as SNAP/ EBT, Senior and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers, and more: Food Research and Action Center, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, DC Hunger, and Feeding America.

In addition to our Wednesday Farm Market, we have lots of exciting events coming up, so be sure to check these out and join us on the farm! Celebrate summer with our Summer Soiree on Thursday, August 26 with DIY flower crowns, ice cream sundae bar, back to school kits, farm tours, grilled veggies and burgers, and more! If you have been interested in volunteering with us, but haven't gotten an opportunity yet, be sure to check out our City Farmer Happy Hour on Tuesday, August 10.

We also have another cooking demo with Chef Stephanie on Thursday, August 12 and a shibori dyeing with plants workshop (family-friendly) on Saturday, August 7.

If you are looking for a fun gift to give a family member or friend, be sure to check out our farm sponsorship opportunities! You can support the growth of a specific fruit tree or bed and receive a farm tote bag, sponsorship certificate, and brick marking your bed or tree.

See you at the market and/ or an upcoming event!

Youth Programs Update

We've been having so much fun learning and cooking on the farm in LEAF classes. Classes are every Sunday from 4:30-5:45 and starting September 9th we will also have class Thursdays from 4:30-5:45. LEAF is a drop in program, designed for elementary age students, but all are welcome. We explore the garden, learn about food and cook recipes together and we'd love to have you join us!

Our registration form can be completed on your first visit and masks are required along with other Covid safety measures. Find more info and download the registration form here.

We've also been excited to have field trips return to the farm this summer! Email us if you work with a school or camp program that is interested in a field trip to the farm or find out more information here.
