Ward 1 Mutual Aid
DC Ward 1 Mutual Aid is a grassroots community-led effort looking to take care of each other and keep our city as safe as possible. We are a group of neighbors living in Ward 1 that have come together to share and distribute resources. Every week we get groceries, medication, and cash assistance to our neighbors using a hotline system and word of mouth. We support specific housing communities and street vendors as well as connect neighbors to additional resources available to them in our community. You can support our efforts by making a donation to our Venmo (@Ward1-DCMutualAid) or become a monthly Patreon supporter for an amount of your choosing - https://www.patreon.com/W1MutualAid
Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture
Arcadia's Mobile Market has partnered with Common Good City Farm to serve the LeDroit Community since 2012. The Mobile Market helps to bridge the good food gap in neighborhoods across Washington, D.C. that lack convenient, affordable access to fresh, local food. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Arcadia accepts and doubles the face value of federal nutrition benefits for customers, increasing their purchasing power and supporting a healthy diet, and supports the regional farm economy. Arcadia Mobile Markets represent less than 2% of all farmers market revenues in Washington DC annually, but are responsible for nearly a third of all SNAP sales at farmers markets across the city, demonstrating the role the Markets fill for the city's most vulnerable families. Dreaming Out Loud
Dreaming Out Loud, Inc. works to create economic opportunity for marginalized communities through building a healthy, equitable food system in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. We are rebuilding urban, community-based food systems through social enterprise, helping to increase access to healthy food and improve community health, develop low-income entrepreneurs and cooperatives, and train at-risk adults residents for sustainable, family-supporting wages.
Support for the work of Dreaming Out Loud will allow us to continue serving vulnerable communities facing food insecurity and other pandemic-related challenges. Food insecurity in the District is projected to increase by 60% in our community and it is anticipated that another 12,000 DC children will become food insecure. As a result, this winter Dreaming Out Loud will serve nearly 800 meals and 800 bundles of fresh produce each week as we establish five emergency mobile distribution centers serving children, families, and seniors, primarily living in Wards 1, 7, and 8.
