Field Trips

Common Good City Farm offers free field trips for DCPS, DC Public Charter and Title 1 schools. Field trips are also open to other groups with a sliding scale fee.

Not able to travel? Check out our virtual field trip collaboration with Washington Youth Garden and City Blossoms.

Bring your class to Common Good for a unique opportunity to see an urban farm in action! Visits are 90 minutes long and topics and activities can include:

  • Planting & plant needs

  • Composting & worms

  • Vegetable harvesting

  • Insects & pollinators

  • Food deserts and food access in DC

  • Hands-on farm work

Field trip focus can be tailored to specific class requests, and the material covered meets DCPS standards. Students are engaged in physical activity on the farm in order to reinforce learning. Tasks and activities will differ for different age groups.

Field trips are held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from April- early November (other dates by special request). Schools are responsible for arranging their own transport to the farm, which is accessible via Metro and several Metro bus routes.

We can accommodate a maximum of 30 students for a single-class field trip. For larger groups or the option to bring two classes on the same day, we provide a split field trip arrangement. This involves one group spending time on the farm while the other enjoys the adjacent park playground with school chaperones, and then they switch. Each group will have a one-hour farm visit, resulting in a full visit time of 2 hours from the selected start time.

If you don’t qualify for the free field trip, our fee is $250 for a single class and $300 for the split group option.
