Common Good Creates a Park in the City

By Marianne Ricord On September 21st, Common Good City Farm participated in Park(ing) Day, an international event that occurs annually to promote green spaces in cities by converting parking spaces into temporary parks. Common Good City Farm, along with other DC organizations, set up a “park” in front of the Wilson Building in downtown Washington, DC. To demonstrate the importance of urban agriculture, Common Good City Farm displayed produce grown on the farm. With half of an acre in the heart of Washington DC, Common Good City Farm grows more than 6,000 pounds of produce each year, and cultivates over 40 species of plants. The farm is not only a green and bio-diverse area but it provides a space for the local community to learn about urban agriculture, nutrition and environmental sustainability. Councilmember Tommy Well’s Office and other participating organizations such as Parks and People, helped to raise awareness about the need to increase the amount of green spaces within the city. Common Good City Farm is proud to be one of the organizations at the event showing dedication and passion to create a greener and more eco-friendly city.
