Scenes from the Youth Programs on the Farm
We’ve had a great season of youth programs on the farm. Our LEAF (Learning for the Environment, Agriculture and Food) program planted the three sisters (corn, beans and squash), melons, basil and more in the youth garden. Recently they harvested the popcorn and helped turn the stalks into a garden fort. After letting it cure, they got to pop the corn and check out how it tasted! They practiced their cooking skills throughout the year, learning many delicious recipes using farm fresh produce. Our LEAF students were also a big help in preparing decorations for lots of our events this year, including special art for the flower arrangements at A Night on the Farm. We are very excited that this year for the first time, our LEAF program will extend through the off season and be offered on Wednesdays and Sundays year round!
Our toddler program, Little Farmers, really enjoyed being out on the farm throughout the season, playing in our digging station, helping to water plants, checking out the beehives and learning about all sorts of garden topics. Little Farmers will wrap up on Oct. 21, but we will be back in the spring!
