Recipe of the Week: Cabbage and Basil Salad

As the harvest season winds down, two ingredients we still have plenty of are cabbage and basil. High in vitamins K and C, cabbage can also lower cholesterol. Basil offers vitamin K, iron, and calcium. While these ingredients are not often paired, their different flavors can complement each other nicely! Friday is last day of open hours!

This Friday is our last day of regularly scheduled open hours. After November 1st, our open hours schedule is over and the farm will be closed until next spring. Feel free to give us a call or send an e-mail if you have any questions. And be sure to join us on November 2nd, from 1 to 3 pm, for our end of season celebration--a last chance to enjoy the farm until next season!

As the weather gets colder, the harvest season of our farm is winding down. But we still have kale! Kale is a low-calorie, nutrient-rich food, and can provide cholesterol lowering and cancer protection benefits. One serving of kale has more than your daily value of vitamins A, C, and K. Extra Farm Field Trips for Growing Healthy Schools Week

We're looking forward to Growing Healthy Schools Week, a celebration of the city's school gardens and farm to school programs that will take place next week, October 20 through October 26. We'll be participating through classroom visits and on the farm field trips. In order to engage as many students as possible, we'll be hosting extra field trips for Growing Healthy Schools week.

Join Us for Let’s Move! DC - Children and Families Health Expo

We're excited to be a part of the first annual Let’s Move! DC - Children and Families Health Expo, which will take place on Saturday, October 19th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm , at the Deanwood Recreation Center. The event will feature music and entertainment, lots of fun outdoor activities for kids, prizes and giveaways, cooking demonstrations and more! Common Good City Farm's youth interns will be there, leading fun farm games, so come by and join us!

Farm Closed This Morning

The farm will be closed today, Friday, October 11, because of the weather. No open hours this morning. Our normal schedule will resume tomorrow. Stay dry out there!

A Night on the Farm to Remember

img 164This past Thursday, friends old and new gathered at the farm to celebrate A Night on the Farm – our annual fundraising event. The evening was truly memorable marked by our picturesque urban farm setting, beautiful weather, and of course, great company.
