The Green Tomorrows Program provides income-qualifying adults or families with gardening experience and educational workshops in health and nutrition, as well as fresh produce from the farm.
This season we:
• Had over 60 Green Tomorrows program participants!
• Held 17 Growing Gardens workshops for participants to attend.
• Distributed over 1200 pounds of food to Green Tomorrow participants.
• Logged 113.5 hours of farm work by Green Tomorrows participants.
Option 1, Hands-on learning: Over the course of the growing season, participants will receive on-the-farm lessons. We encourage 2 hours of on farm participation each week. Participants will learn as they work the land alongside staff. Hands-on lessons include planting (direct seed & transplanting), harvesting, composting, pest control, and various other lessons in sustainability.
Option 2, Workshops: Participants can also opt to take a series of workshops, particularly if they are senior citizens or physically challenged. Topics include horticulture, nutrition, food preparation, and food budgeting.
Participants who take the first option are encouraged to attend the workshops as well, as they cover a wide range of topics applying to sustainable agriculture and healthy eating.
Green Tomorrows is all about developing important skills for a productive and healthy future! As an added benefit, participants will also receive fresh produce from the farm every week.
Eligibility: To be eligible for our free Green Tomorrows (GT) program, you must make less than a DC living wage, which is $480/week without children or $980/week with children or other dependents. No gardening or farming experience is necessary. Our programs suit all levels of ability, mobility, and experience.
